Thursday Walkers 1
Leader/Coordinator: | Jill C & Peter T |
Aims and Objectives of the group:
To enjoy outside activity in beautiful countryside, maintain health and fitness, learn more about our environment, nature etc, and local history. And of course enjoy the company of fellow walkers.
Any expertise needed:
The ability to walk up to 5 miles, some slight gradients, but not demanding terrain.
Equipment needed (rough costs if any):
Waterproof jackets and walking boots or stout shoes are advisable.
Maximum number permitted in the group:
It is maintained at 30.
Location, day and time of meetings:
We start at 10am, and finish the walk by approximately 1pm.
We usually park at and start walking from the pub where we later lunch.
A brief description of a typical meeting:
The group walks on the 2nd and 4th Thursday mornings of each month, for distances of 4 to 5 miles. We try to accommodate all abilities.
We aim to help maintain fitness and agility, while enjoying and learning about nature, local history and scenery. Walks usually end with a pub lunch. Car sharing is encouraged.
Members take turns, usually in pairs, to lead walks; turns come around about half-yearly. Ability to read maps (we have a stock) is an advantage, but help is given. Advance information on a walk is distributed, usually by email, before the day.
All required U3AWalk Risk Assessment procedures are followed.
