German Intermediate
Leader/Coordinator: | Karen W |
Aims and Objectives of the group:
To develop students’ understanding of and ability to use German in a range of contexts, i.e. social situations and transactional situations such as shopping, eating out etc.
Any expertise needed:
Helpful to have a basic grounding in, for example, basic pronunciation, the alphabet, numbers, greetings etc. even if last German was many years ago.
Not really suitable for absolute beginners, for whom a separate group exists.
Equipment needed (rough costs if any):
Copy of BBC’s ‘Deutsch Plus’ textbook – available for around £10 on Amazon, Waterstones etc.
Maximum number permitted in the group: 5
Location, day and time of meetings:
2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 2-4 pm at my house: Leader’s home.
A brief description of a typical meeting:
I try to spend equal amounts of time on the 3 skills of speaking, listening and reading (no writing required). We use a combination of material from the textbook and audio and visual materials of my own. We also make regular use of games of all kinds to practise vocabulary, phrases and grammar.
The atmosphere is relaxed and refreshments are provided at the halfway point.
