Rummikub

Group Leader is Julie Steele

We meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at 1.30pm in the Festival Suite at Alford Hall Sports and Social Club, Manchester Road WA1 3NJ.

If you enjoy playing Scrabble, Rummy or Mah Jong then you will certainly enjoy Rummikub. The game is not new but has recently been really catching on in a big way.

The aim of the game is to win either by emptying your rack of tiles or by scoring the most points in a series of games.

Tiles are numbered 1 to 13, and are coloured red, blue, orange, or black, plus jokers that can represent any tile. Tiles can be laid down in groups or runs of tiles. A group is three or four tiles of different colours but the same number, for example three 7's in orange, blue and black. A run is three or more tiles in consecutive order and all the same colour, for example blue 3, 4, 5.

To start the game, your first set of tiles must add up to at least 30. You have to pick up if you can’t go. Once you have entered the game you can build on or manipulate any sets on the table so long as you add at least one tile from your rack.

Each game starts slowly, but once you start manipulating tiles it can be very exciting!

If you are interested in joining the group, please get in touch using the “Click to send a message” link on this page.
