Groups and General Meetings

For the 2020-2021 session, some groups are hoping to meet face-to-face in small numbers. Other groups (as well as some of those meeting face-to-face) will have virtual meetings and possibly other online contact. The remainder have decided to suspend activities until the situation improves. See the Groups page for more details.

General Meetings will be held online: see the Meetings page for more details.

Warrington U3A

Although, to misquote a great man, this is not the end or even the beginning of the end, it just might be the end of the beginning!

The Warrington U3A is not yet on life-support but it is wheezing a little. Please be patient. We are hoping that some groups will be meeting again from September but this, of course, depends upon all social-distancing requirements being met, in Covid-secure premises, and with groups and group leaders who are prepared to do so. If you have not yet heard from the groups you belong to or would like to join, please contact the group leader via the Groups page of this website. Please note, however, that many groups are not proposing to meet again for the foreseeable future, or at least until the present regulations are relaxed, and activities for other groups are effectively impossible under the present restrictions. Please also remember that, with the reduced membership fee, groups will be responsible in future for paying for their own accommodation for meetings. This should not result in an increase over previous years, however, unless groups plan more meetings than in the past.

Many groups are planning to have virtual meetings on platforms such as zoom so please contact group leaders to see if this is an option. There may also be virtual general meetings and talks from external speakers. A programme will be published here once it has been finalised.

The issue of the 2019-2020 AGM has still not been resolved but is likely to be a virtual meeting to approve agenda items only and without a speaker. The meeting will be quorate with just those who wish to attend. Further information will be sent out later in the year.

Please do remember to renew your membership. It is the only way we can survive to regroup in better times. Membership lists will be updated in September and anyone who decides not to renew will be removed from mailing lists.

Please be understanding if something you would like to join does not appear for a while. These are unprecedented times and everyone within the Warrington U3A, like so many other organisations, is having to do the best they can in difficult circumstances.

Ian Lancaster
Chairman, Warrington U3A.
