New Morris Dancing Group

The new Morris Dancing Group has now successfully launched, and looks forward to greeting new members. Over the next few months we will mainly be doing dances from the Cotswold tradition, with an occasional look at some from the more local North West tradition. Morris dancing is a great way to keep fit, and it's hugely enjoyable. No previous experience is necessary, and you can expect some expert tuition. Dancers and musicians all welcome. Why not come along and try? No obligation to buy!

The Group meets every 2 weeks on Tuesday afternoons from 1.30 to 3.30 in the large hall at Bold Street Methodist Church. The next sessions are on 28th January and 11th and 25th February.

For further information, please contact Bill Sperinck on 07969 310033 or via the link on the Morris Dancing Group page.

Art Exhibition

An exhibition by members of the U3A Art for All Group has been set up at Fairfield Old School and will be available to view for the month of January. The paintings are all inspired by the Austrian artist Klimt and are of a high standard. Please support the group and call in if you are in the area to take a look.

Members’ News

If anyone would like help or advice with giving presentations or using any of the WU3A equipment, or would like to speak with someone from the committee, come along to Winmarleigh House for an informal chat on the morning before a General Meeting. From now on, the Chairman and some committee members will be available from about 10.00 on the morning of a meeting day in the lounge at Winmarleigh to talk about any matter relevant to the WU3A.

Your Committee needs you!

Every U3A must have an Executive Committee in order to operate. All posts are unpaid and time-limited. Responsibilities are various and, generally, not too onerous! Each committee member serves for a period of one year, from the AGM at which they are elected to the following AGM, but can stand for re-election if they wish or there are no other volunteers. Members can serve for a maximum of six years as committee members but no more than three consecutive years in the same post (other than the Treasurer, for reasons of continuity). Most of the present committee have served for much of their allotted span and some are approaching mandatory retirement. If there are no members willing to replace them, the future of our U3A will be in jeopardy.

If anyone would like to discuss joining the committee and playing a vital role in keeping our U3A going, please come along to one of the informal chats above or contact the Chairman. No obligation is implied! Members can join the committee before the AGM (June 2020) and stand for formal election then, if they wish. We would be particularly grateful for members to offer experience with setting up computers and AV equipment.

Tuesday Badminton Group

Happily there’s only one session in this 3-month quarter that the Tuesday Badminton group is unable to meet at Orford Jubilee Hub, and that is on Tuesday 17th March 2020, when we they meet at Grappenhall Community Centre instead.

25th Anniversary Magazine

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Warrington U3A in 2019, a 25th Anniversary Magazine has been produced. To read it, see the link on this page.
