Theatre Appreciation Group
Group Lead Anne Marie Gleeson : Deputy Lead Maureen McCoy
MEETINGS EVERY 1st/3rd WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH STARTING 10.30am
~~~~ S E A S O N 2019 / 2020 ~~~~
We have now had our second meeting when Darren Jeffries from Ludovico Studios came to talk to us about the cultural work he is doing at the Pyramid to promote all aspects of drama for Warrington people from running professional 8-week courses on acting to courses on film/ scriptwriting / technical theatre jobs and liaising with Warrington groups to promote drama throughout the town.
Our next meeting is Anne Marie giving a presentation on the old theatres of Warrington and discussing where we go from here after the latest attempts at a 'Theatre for Warrington' have fallen through.
Last season we had arranged our next 2 overnight Theatre visits as follows:
SCARBOROUGH - Backstage Tour & Play with 1 night stay over to see 'SEASONS GREETINGS' on Wednesday 7th August. Seven of us caught the train direct and had a great afternoon exploring the old Odeon cinema which had been converted into the Stephen Joseph Theatre where Alan Ayckbourn first produces his many plays (83 to date, and is second most performed playwright after Shakespeare). Next day we walked along the prom and enjoyed a Spa Orchestra performance in their Victorian open air theatre venue; this orchestra is the last remaining one to perform at a seaside venue in the country and is in danger of disbanding due to lack of support. We had our photograph taken with them and hoping this will be published in the Third Age Matters magazine. (photos of this and theatre on the right).
KESWICK THEATRE TRIP - 4 nights to see 6 plays. (details of plays are attached in link to the right)
