Group Leader...Steve Ormand
The Guitar Group provides a great place for beginners and experienced players to play together with others as a group. We split the session into two halves with a short break in between where you will have the opportunity to chat to other members or ask questions of the more experienced players.
In the first half we tend to concentrate on songs with open or easier chords and then in the second half try one or two more difficult songs (relatively speaking!). For the difficult songs we take a short time to introduce them and explain any particular rhythm or chord structure before running through them, simply at first. The aim is to use these songs to advance your playing.
Sometimes we have short breakout sessions where our more experienced players share techniques and tips aimed at improving your playing.
You will need some basic guitar playing skills such as the common open chords, but you need not worry as you will be surprised how quickly you progress just by playing with others. The experienced players are always happy to help you with anything you are finding difficult.
We use guitar tabs, so you do not have to read music and we have a great guitar book with over 100 songs. We have some good singers amongst us who take turns in leading the songs.
We do encourage the use of a tablet to view the songs as it keeps us all up to date with new songs as they are added and of course it saves the trees. We update the book with a link sent to you by email so that you can download it to your tablet or, if you wish, print it out and bring the paper copy to the sessions.
