Sea Shanty

Group Leaders are Derek and Julia Batters

The group meets on alternate Tuesday afternoons at 1.30pm at Alford Hall.

We strongly suggest that you bring along something to drink, soft drinks, or bottled water, as singing can be thirsty work!

Derek and I have been singing sea shanties together and with others for over twenty years including running festivals and a sea shanty session in Liverpool. The pleasure of shanties is that they are for everyone.

With Fisherman’s Friend being popular, and having appeared recently at the Parr Hall, everyone knows what shanties are. The best thing about them is you don’t need to be musical, or have a great voice: they are for singing together with others for pleasure.

Just turn up and join in as much as you want to, or come to enjoy listening. Derek and Julia will lead the shanties to start with, and we hope eventually others will gain the confidence to lead a song or two.

See below for a video of the group's first outing.
