Cinema
For members on their own, or whose partners don't have the same taste in films, the Cinema Group provides an opportunity to meet up with others to see major films at the local cinemas.
It's very friendly and casual, with no regular commitment or cinema-buff knowledge required. When a film is chosen, the Group Leader emails members with details of the film, and when and where it will be shown.
We usually meet at the Everyman Cinema in Oxted. The cinema does not normally publish the films to be shown until Tuesday morning, so a speedy response to the email is needed. Since the Everyman is divided into three cinemas, it quickly gets booked up, so it is necessary to pre-book the tickets. This means that a firm commitment is required.
We have also been attending Live Screenings at Everyman, Oxted of Operas & Ballets from The Royal Opera House.
Usually it's a late afternoon or evening show with everyone meeting up in the bar about 30 minutes before the programme starts.
We also occasionally go to the Miller Centre in Caterham, where they show a film on the Monday after the run of the show has finished. The tickets for this are only £5, but need to be booked well in advance as it is very popular.
Once there is a film that we wish to see, I will issue an email to assess interest.
