During the current lockdown, U3A members are trying to pursue some of their normal activities online. Members of Reading Group 1 have used email to exchange reviews of the most recent novel under discussion: see Ordinary Thunderstorms.

When(Group 3)Monthly1st Monday7.00 p.m.By rotation at members houses.

The current practice is to read and discuss one book every month. All members have an opportunity to suggest books, and the group leader holds a "box" to support more general lending and borrowing.

In 2019, Group 1 read and discussed the following books: I Saw a Man by Owen Sheers, The Dinner by Herman Koch, Daisy Miller and The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, Our House by Louise Candlish, Sea Change by Robert Goddard, The Dark Circle by Linda Grant, The Way We Live Now by Anthony Trollope, A Horse Walks into a Bar by David Grossman, Spring by Ali Smith, and Map and Lucia_ by E.F. Benson.
