Glee - Singing for Pleasure
When | Monthly, 2nd Friday of the month 2pm - 4 p.m. | |
Where | St. Mary's Church Hall | Caterham on the Hill |
We are a singing group who meet to sing purely for pleasure. There are no auditions and no concerts to prepare for. Singing is for everyone and anybody is welcome to join us. Singing makes you feel better; it helps with breathing; it can relieve stress; it improves memory; it improves confidence and wellbeing. Singing in a group also provides a sense of community and you can quickly make new friends.
We sing all types of song: some you will know well and some will be new to you. They are all accompanied by piano and/or guitar. The words are provided in small booklets which each have a theme. We have booklets with songs from Musicals e.g. My Fair Lady, The Greatest Showman, King and I, Oliver, Joseph, Sound of Music, Chicago and so on. We have booklets with Popular songs e.g. Sweet Caroline, Penny Lane, Delilah, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Unchained Melody, When I’m 64, Amarillo etc. We have songs from particular artists e.g. ABBA, Michael Bublé, The Seekers etc. We also have songs that are best sung with guitar accompaniment e.g. Rock Around the Clock, Mamma Mia, Singing the Blues, Annie’s Song, It’s All About You, Bobby’s Girl, Those Were the Days etc. In other words, there is something for everyone and we generally have a very good time.
Each session usually covers about 30 songs with a tea/coffee/biscuit break in the middle. New members are very welcome. Come along as a visitor and discover if it is for you.
