First Aid

Have you ever wondered how you would cope with an emergency illness or accident in the home or in a public place? Those who attended the excellent first aid sessions given by Patricia Barnard feel much more confident now.

Some of the things we have learnt are:;

CPR: how to check for danger, the casualty's response, airway and breathing, how to shout loudly for help and for someone to call an ambulance. We learned the correct way to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths and how to adapt this to young children and babies. We watched a video showing how to use a defibulator.

The Recovery Position: the correct conditions to use it, and how to turn the casualty so that they are safe, breathing and comfortable.

Bleeding and Shock: how to bandage the bleed and to raise the limbs.

Choking: how to use two techniques to treat adults and the different way to treat infants.

Plus other aspects of first aid including bites and stings.

It has been very interesting and enjoyable, and potentially important as - who knows - one day it might help to save a life!
