Derek is running ZOOM meetings which will start on Monday 18th May . An explanation of how is given below.
The first stage is for members to send me their email address. I will collect those addresses as a gmail group which allows me to email all with one message. No one other than me as the host needs any Zoom software on their computer, iPad or any other device.
The process is that you will receive an email from me inviting you to a meeting. The email will invite you to a meeting with a date and time and also contain a "link" which you will need to select, but not until the date and time of the meeting. You device will receive a request to save, (download) a file and to then click on the file name, (it is a small .exe) file. (For any of you who do have Zoom software on your computer you can use the meeting ID and password in the normal way.) You are taken to an online waiting room to wait a few moments for me to accept you. Once I have done that I will be able to see and hear you and you will be able to see and hear me. This obviously requires that you have your camera and sound turned on. I have tested this process on Maureen's laptop which does not have Zoom on it.
I have somewhere in the region of 75 previous talks saved which no doubt many of you have not seen or have perhaps forgotten anyway. Because I am using the free version of Zoom to do this, talk time is limited to 40 minutes so by the time all have connected each presentation will only last for around 30 minutes. This means that perhaps some talks will have to be split. The U3A committee will be discussing the cost of a "Pro" version at £119.99 per year as soon as they can.
Once I have a list I will arrange a couple of test sessions to allow people to become familiar. Once sorted I will plan to start the Monday morning 10 am sessions online. If anyone requires any further information contact Derek as above
