For those not on email, copies of the bulletin are available at the weekly Coffee Morning at Wilfred House. Many thanks to those who have contributed to this session’s magazine. If you have any items you would like to submit which are relevant to U3A activities, such as photographs, group activities or outings, please contact the magazine editor Sue Ashton or phone her on 01283 820006
The post of Secretary is now, unexpectedly, vacant, following Bill Hiltons’ recent resignation on a matter of personal principle on gender identity.
Sue Ashton, former Secretary, has agreed to undertake the organisation of our AGM on 19 June at Wilfred House.
The role of Secretary for the future will be presented for election at our AGM. Chairman Ken Ashton will undertake the role of Secretary until the AGM.
We do have a nominated and seconded application for the post of Secretary. Vacancies still exist for Treasurer, Accounts Examiner, Vice-Chairman and five committee members. E-mail Ken Ashton for more information or phone him on 07841 465 414
Mixed Group Participation
We have been treated to some excellent entertainment during November and December, with the Singers, Recorders, Ukuleles, Drama and Write & Rhyme groups all coming together. There was a moving tribute to the Servicemen and women who lost their lives during WW1 in November, and a short play and Christmas songs in December. Many thanks to all those who took part, and to the group leaders who enable our members to participate.
Accounts Examiner required. We have grown over the years and are now approaching an income of £25,000 per annum from subs, £1 session donations and trips. This sum is a trigger point in the Charity Commission’s requirements for financial reporting. When we exceed £25,000 pa we must move from an “inexperienced” examiner to a “experienced” examiner. We don’t have to employ an independent professional until income reaches £250,000 pa. Member Ivor Kirby has undertaken the examination duty for a number of years and we agreed at the 2018 AGM that now is the time to look for a more qualified or experienced examiner to begin in 2019. If you worked in accounts, or perhaps have retired as an accountant, please consider undertaking this essential role. Treasurer Teresa Kinvig has the bookkeeping organised to present batches for examination on a rolling basis, so the work would be intermittent and organised to suit your free time. Please contact% Ken Ashton% by clicking on his name, text on 07841 465 414 see him at coffee mornings for more information.
We have been asked to advise our members that the Hall will be opening for more days next year and will be looking for more volunteers. They will be holding a series of meetings etc., with more information. We will keep you informed.
At the end of May 2018, the UK regulations on personal data protection are being updated and there are a couple of things that we should bring to your notice. We hold and use personal information necessary to provide you with U3A services relevant to your membership. We have successfully done so for 15 years in a secure and confidential manner. We hold your name & address plus your email address and telephone numbers where you have elected to provide them and your optional election for gift aid. There will be no changes to this system except to make it clear that you have the right to see an extract of the information we hold and to opt in or out of email, telephone or postal communications [but not all]. We don’t hold, or propose to hold, any further information that is not necessary for your enjoyment of Uttoxeter & District U3A.
