As a Chamber Orchestra of wind and string instruments we meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at Holy Cross Community Hall from 2 – 4 pm.
We have really enjoyed working hard to put on a performance of Christmas music for the U3A December meeting and then a more varied programme at the Showcase event this April. Now we are looking for an opportunity to contribute to a Charity concert in the autumn. Any suggestions?
The audience in April appreciated our programme of classical music ranging from themes from the Pastoral Symphony by Beethoven and the Clock Symphony by Haydn, a medley from Gilbert and Sullivan plus a lesser known work by Elgar – ‘Chanson de Matin’ which became our favourite. We ended with a folk medley, ‘Best of Britain’.
Now David Porter, our Music Director, is stretching our ability to master quick changes of key and rhythm with a medley of Gershwin’s musical tunes.
We would love to welcome some more string players – violins, violas and cellos. As for the wind section we would have to check the numbers and balance, but there is a space for a second oboist at the moment and also a bassoon player. It is a friendly and enthusiastic group and we really enjoy making music together.
