Philosophy 2
Philosophy 2 meets on the 4th Friday of each month, in the morning.
We are interested in exploring philosophical questions as they apply to living in the 21st Century and how answers to these questions have been proposed by philosophers in the past. We have followed courses in political and moral philosophy using introductory texts which respond to the questions of “How should we live?” and “How should we live together?” We have read and discussed some original philosophy, as in the dialogues of Plato concerning the death of Socrates. More recently, we have looked at a readable and accessible introduction to Aristotle’s ethics. In the past we have briefly considered Sartre’s views on freedom, some of the short aphorisms of Nietzsche and ideas of Enlightenment thinkers.
