Art Appreciation 2
Art Appreciation 2 is a lively group who meet on the 2nd Monday of each month at 1pm in a group member's home.
The Group has looked at a wide range of topics and each member is expected to do a little research and bring examples to discuss at the meeting. This leads to open and relevant discussion on how art in its many forms has impacted on, and continues to be relevant to, our daily lives.
Topics previously studied include art pre 1350 and through the ages to the present day. We have discussed examples of the various “isms” e.g. Cubism, surrealism, Dadaism, impressionism, etc.
Recently we have looked at the elements in art: wind, storm, sunlight etc. and how various artists have expressed them in radically different ways. See enclosed Notes of the meeting and the wide range of pictures discussed.
Our most recent topic has been poster art both in advertising and propaganda, ranging from the bucolic railway posters of the 50’s to striking images in communist and other propaganda artwork.
We are now embarking on a study of art from various countries starting with Australia. As a group we are on a continual learning curve and enjoy our monthly discussions.
