History of Science
Details updated July 2023
The History of Science Group has been meeting since 2014 looking at all aspects of how science has developed over the centuries. We began by studying the U3A On-line course and now we have a mixed programme of subjects to consider, each discussion being led by a member of the group. In 2020/21, despite lockdown, we continued using Telephone conferencing or Zoom in place of Face-to-face meetings.
Members are encouraged to nominate subjects for consideration. The recent meetings included:
History & Future of Transport, John Milton, Mass Extinctions, The Scientific Method, Batteries, Towns & Transport, The History of Lichfield's Water, Railway Accidents, The Dawn of Everything and Quantum Computing. What an eclectic mix!
In 2022, the group visited Sandfields Pumping Station, and we are keen to visit sites with a relevant story to tell.
New members are welcome to join our meetings, just get in touch with the Group Leader, Chris Lock, for details by clicking on the Contact link at the top of the page and leaving a message.
Our meetings are now on the Fourth Monday monthly at the Tesco Community Room, starting at 2pm. N.B. Free Parking is obtained if you buy £5 worth of goods and register at the parking terminals, or by registering at the meeting.
