Planned visit by Astronaut Winston Scott

The NASA astronaut Winston Scott’s visit to the UK is confirmed and we are his first destination. The talk, Q&A session and signed photograph will cost £25. I recognise that this is more than Jerry Bostick but he came free [except for covering his airfare] Other talks etc. by Winston are around the £60 mark so we are getting a good deal.

It has been drawn to my attention that another talk is taking place that evening [Jocelyn Bell talk for the Darwin Lecture]. Fortunately both can be attended, as they don’t clash with regards to the timings. A great chance to stretch the ‘grey matter’

Tickets for Winston are now available and I urge you to respond quickly as the offer has also gone out to many of our local U3A groups as well. I have been asked if friends and family of our members can attend. I feel that many of us want our grand children to be inspired to excel and I know Winston will do just that, so yes is the answer.

Creative writing
Mon Nov 19th 2018 marks the 10th Anniversary of the formation of the Creative Writing group and to celebrate the event we have invited Matthew Hall (who also writes as M.R. Hall) to give a talk to members. He is the author of the “Coroner” series of books which have won fiction writing awards, and has written for many TV series including “Kavanagh QC”, “Dalziel and Pascoe” and “Foyle’s War”. He is the creator and writer of “Keeping Faith” which is keeping some of us riveted to BBC1 on Thursday nights to find out what has happened to Evan! And he is writing a second series too.
The talk, entitled “A Life in Crime”, will take place on Monday 19th November in the Guildhall, starting promptly at 2pm and lasting for approximately an hour with time for questions. I’m sure he will bring some books too. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be served from 1.30. Tickets are £5 and will be available at each Monthly Meeting in September, October and November (while still available), or can be ordered from Pearl Harrison
