Dates for your Diary
Meetings
Wed Sep 11th The general meeting will be held at The Guildhall, Bore Street at 2pm.

The talk will be by Andrew Lound "Apollo and Moon Landing"
Mon Oct 7th NASA Astronaut Don Thomas visits Lichfield U3A.

I’m beginning to think that NASA must think that Lichfield is the centre of the UK’s Space Industry.
On the early evening Astronaut Don Thomas, will deliver a talk followed a Q&A session in the Garrick Suite of the George Hotel in Lichfield.
Don is a veteran of 4 Space flights to the International Space Station, offering a unique insight into what it takes to get onto the space program and life in the ISS. Probably the best speaker I’ve heard from the NASA program, he is particularly good with youngsters, inspiring them to study science and engineering as well as offering an insight into where the future exploration of space is heading.

Tickets are now available at £18 each from Pete Gostling. With the Garrick Suite being smaller than the Guildhall, we are limited to a smaller audience to please book early before I open it up to other U3A bodies.
Fri Oct 25th GROUP LEADERS’ MEETING

To all Group Leaders, I do hope you are able to attend the group leaders' meeting which will take place at Mabel’s Tearooms, Curborough Countryside Centre from 10.00am to 12.30pm.
Wed Nov 13th The general meeting will be held at The Guildhall, Bore Street at 2pm.

The talk will be by Rodger Ide "Beliefs and Myths"
Wed Dec 11th The general meeting will be held at The Guildhall, Bore Street at 2pm.

The talk will be by David St John "A Potpourri of Entertainment."
Outings
Wed Sep 11th Visits to DMS Whittington in 2019

Further to my announcement at the Main Meeting in February, I have arranged for Lichfield U3A to have places on 3 visits during 2019. We are restricted initially to 15 in each group, although there may be more places if they are not filled by others.

The dates are 12th June, 11th September and 13th November – all Wednesdays. If they adhere to last year’s programme, the evenings start at 7pm and finish at 9.30pm, and consist of an opening address from the Commanding Officer and then a tour of some of the key areas on site, followed by tea and coffee with the opportunity to view the Whittington Tapestry. Groups will meet at DMS Whittington.

If you are interested in joining one of these visits it will be first come, first served but I will keep a waiting list for each visit in case we get more places.

Please make sure you tell me what date you require and how many places, and, of course, your name and contact number!

Pen to Paper
Mon Oct 14th Pen 2 Paper is a new creative writing group which meets on a monthly basis. We decide on a theme/topic for the month and each member creates a piece of writing around the theme. Pieces generally comprise 1000 to 2000 words - so far, themes have been “Overheard”, “Roots”, “Competition” and “The Interruption". When we meet, we give each other constructive feedback on what we thought about the pieces, which leads to our own development as writers.
We meet in the leaders’ home between 10.30 and 12.30 on the second Monday of each month and are open to new members. Please contact us via the contact details at the beginning of this email if you would like to join.
