|Meeting pattern||2pm on Monday afternoons all year, except for Bank Holidays|
|Venue||Wells Football Club|
New Name, New Year, New Pistes.
Thanks to discussions between Wells Football Club and the U3A Committee, Wells City now has a permanent facility of two new pistes located adjacent to the football club grandstand at their ground at Rowdens Road, Wells. John and Wendy have been hard at work advising, designing and fundraising the project, at zero cost to the U3A and this facility will be available to the people of Wells from the start of the New Year.
Wells U3A Petanque Group have reserved Monday afternoons so far, how about another U3A Member out there setting up another Petanque Group on a different day or time , we all want to see it well used!
The “old Boules” group moved there in January, after having enjoyed an excellent 6 months at Wellsfield Barn in the countryside, we will miss that and Virginia’s hospitality, for which we all thank her.
Pétanque is a team game and is the best-known form of the French ‘boules’ (literally ‘balls’) family of games. It involves the rolling or pitching of hollow metal boules over a gravel playing area (or terrain) to rest as close as possible to a much smaller wooden target ball or jack (or cochonnet, literally ‘piglet’!) The basic game is fairly easy to pick up and has a nice levelling
mix of skill and with some elements of ‘chance’ (luck even!)
We now have a full group again, so a waiting list is now operating for this group, so please contact me [via the carrier pigeon icon on this page] if you wish to sample the delights of Pétanque and have fun, it’s not taken too seriously ! We have a stock of spare boules that can be borrowed, if you do not have your own.
We shall continue to meet, weather permitting, on Monday afternoons at 2.00pm to 4.00pm but excluding all Bank Holidays, there is ample parking, toilets and use of “hospitality suite” and shelter.
