The Out and About group try to organise a trip, visit or event once a month. In January this group holds an AGM to discuss with all of the members the plans for the year and hopefully get offers from people to organise trips to their favourite places of interest.
Last July a group visited Burcott Mill along with a demonstration of milling flour with the help of the old water wheel and after lunch at the Ring o'Bells at Wookey. The group moved on to Court Farm for a tour of the medieval building with additions over the centuries. A cream tea was enjoyed in the beautiful garden. Another cream tea was enjoyed in the magnificent gadens of Stoberry Park along with a tour of the various areas of the garden. Another trip last year was to Fussels Fine Foods at Rode where the group had a tour of the factory producing rapeseed oil and a visit to the fields after which Tim Fussel gave a cookery demonstration using many of their products and then the group enjoyed the fruits of his labour.
In the Autumn and winter a group of members had lunch at Da Lucianos pizza restaurant along with a demonstration of throwing a pizza base. We had Skittles at the Crossways Inn and a Winter warmer lunch in the New year which was also at the Crossways Inn.
Trips coming up in 2024 are to Gilbert and Swayne chocolate factory at Boltonsborough; a conducted tour of Uphill with lunch; a visit to the Sulis silk factory in Radstock along with a pub lunch; a trip to Milton lodge and gardens and other visits later in the year.
We are always interested in places to go and welcome sugesstions. Nearly all our trips include a meal together or at least a tea. We work closely with the members arranging day coach trips which go further a field.
