Cards for Pleasure
|Leader||Margaret R. & Eric P.|
|Meeting pattern||Weekly, Mondays 7-9 pm|
|Venue||Conservative Club, Market Square|
Card games are a great way to meet people and have fun whilst giving the grey cells a gentle workout, and we are a friendly and enthusiastic group of players who meet centrally every Monday evening. See the Diary dates below for details of our next few meetings.
Tables are filling up, but we still have a few empty seats, so do get in touch, via the pigeon icon on this page, if you think you might be interested in joining us. No experience is necessary as printed rules and assistance will be provided, and lifts may also be available if you need transport.
We play different games (currently Whist, Cribbage, Canasta, Bezique, Euchre, Kalooki and Spite and Malice) each week, chosen because they're great fun to play and not too difficult for beginners to pick up. Every few months we slot in a special session for members to introduce us to their own favourite games, which can then be incorporated into the rolling schedule. Most recently we've learned to play Spite and Malice, a competitive form of Patience.
We meet all year round and our repertoire includes games for from two to five players, so we can adapt to varying numbers each week and everyone who comes along can join in.
You can find some fascinating facts about the origins and practice of playing cards and games on our Card Games Trivia page.
