Chess
Leader | Geoff Egan |
Meeting pattern,1st 2nd 3rd and 4th Thursdays of the month - 10:30 to 12:30
Venue,2nd & 4th, George Inn, Gurney Slade , 1st & 3rd at Wells Library.
The chess group continues with its established format of a tutorial session (more experienced players matched with less experienced players - "You might like to reconsider that move - you might find a better one"), followed by a coffee break, and then a session where players of similar experience are matched.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, at the George Inn in Gurney Slade, BA3 4TQ (01749-840667), from 10:30 until 12:30 - sometimes members extend our socialising by staying on for lunch. Also we meet at the Wells library on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month
Our meetings are shared with the Norton Radstock U3A Chess Group. The joint arrangement has the benefit of a larger pool of players, and therefore a greater likelihood of being able to be paired up with a player of similar standard/experience.
We welcome and count among our members both ladies and gents. We cater for all playing strengths - novice to club player - so anybody can come along and join in, by first contacting the chess group leader. i.e. find out more about joining our group via the pigeon icon on this page (There is currently no waiting list for this group).
The weekly puzzle may provide some amusement; some are rather tricky - there is no requirement to solve any in order to join our group!
