Dylan Thomas defined poetry this way: “poetry is what makes me laugh or cry or yawn; (it’s) what makes my toenails twinkle” – if this makes you curious to find out more then why not join our small, friendly and active group who meet in St Thomas Street every other Monday afternoon to read and discuss poetry. Over the years we have discovered a variety of poets old and new ranging from Wordsworth and Auden to our poet laureate Simon Armitage and many new (to us) and exciting poets writing today. One session is devoted to a poet, the next to a subject all chosen by ourselves.
For our last meeting of the year we had seasonal poems, as well as celebrating with crackers and mince pies. (Barley joined us for our December meeting as an honorary member!)
In mid summer we arrange an outing with a link, however tenuous, to a poet or subject. We look forward to welcoming you.
