Poetry Appreciation

Meeting Pattern | Alternate Mondays at 2:00pm |
Venue | Wells |
Do you enjoy reading poetry, ancient or modern? If so we are a small friendly group who meet in St Thomas Street every other Monday to read and discuss poetry. Over the years we’ve covered a variety of poets, such as Wordsworth, John Donne, W H Auden and Ted Hughes, as well as some who are still very much alive and writing. Each poet is chosen by a member who then tells us a bit about them before we all read the poems. For alternative meetings we read poems linked to a subject, also chosen by a member.
During the summer we enjoy a poetry-themed day out, past visits have included Coleridge’s house and Thomas Hardy’s cottage; this year we returned to Wilton, to the home of Alison, one of our group members. After visiting Wilton church we went back to Alison’s house and after lunch read poems about Salisbury, Wiltshire, and I even found one about Wilton House.
If you would like to join us we have vacancies.
