Leader June Buckley

Venue - Jubilee Hall St Albans Church, Broadmead Avenue, Northampton. NN3 2RA

The group meets fortnightly at 2.00-4.00 pm.

Mah Jong is of Chinese Origin usually played with 4/3 players. Many people may have played Mah Jong, either at home when they were children or whilst on holiday. Some people may have recently played using the Internet. However it is important to note that rules may vary wherever play has been learned. We use the Western rules based on the book “The Game of Mah Jong” Patricia A. Thompson & Betty Maloney.

The Mah Jong game consists of 144 tiles and uses its own terminology. There are 108 suit tiles 16 Wind tiles, 12 Dragon tiles, 4 Flower tiles and 4 Season tiles making a total of 144 tiles plus 4 blank tiles for use in additional games.

During the game, the players hold 13 tiles. They play as individuals not as partners. In turn each player draws one tile from a stack-known as the wall- temporally holding 14 tiles before discarding.

The objective of the game is to be the first player to obtain a complete set of certain special hands,

We welcome new and experienced players.
