Decorative Arts from 1800
Leader: Jan Sayer
Deputy: Peggy Johnstone Tel: 01604 843666
We started off as a group studying the Arts and Crafts Movement, but have recently widened our interests, hence the new name Decorative Arts from 1800. Currently we are looking at sculptors in all media during the last two centuries.
It is a light hearted study group, following the interests of group members.
Each month two people research something or someone of their choice within the topic, presenting in whichever way they feel comfortable and then share their discoveries with the group for joint discussion. We will be covering various subjects including architecture, gardens, furniture, glass and ceramics, jewellery and paintings etc.
There will be a strong visual base to the sessions with visits to various places and exhibitions during the year to complement our study and interests.
Currently we are planning on an April 2024 visit to recently reopened Birmingham Art Gallery and Museum ( Middleton Cheney etc).
In January of each year we have a belated Christmas meal together.
Meetings will be held at 10.30 am on the last Wednesday of each month at St Matthews Parish Centre, The Drive, Northampton.
Please do feel free to come and join us, you will be most welcome. Currently three spaces available.
