Quiz Group

Leader: Pam Fraser Tel: 01604 845263
Deputy: Christine Bentley Tel: 01604 753334

We meet on the 2nd Monday of each month for a 7.30 pm start, at a new venue from April: The Cock Hotel, Harborough Road, Kingsthorpe, Northampton NN2 7AZ

Members are encouraged to compile questions for some meetings as the group leaders are keen to take part in the quizzes rather than just doing the questions, and if enough people volunteer, then anyone would only need to compile about once every two years.

Each member pays £1 to play and the money collected goes to the winner.

We have a good social evening, getting the use of the Hotel room for free, on condition we 'buy a few drinks'

I am very keen to enlarge the group and would welcome new members.

Quiz 2

Leader: Ray Hobby Tel: 01604 491758

The current Northampton u3a on-line Covid Quiz Group 2 is made up of 112 Quizzers and faces a new quiz every week …usually on a Wednesday.

It is delivered by email essentially in a non-challenging way – where the quizzers get the questions …and a week later along come the answers for the quizzers to check their results, in private, …thus avoiding any embarrassment, except where self-inflicted …and equally, where everyone doesn’t have to face the screaming exultation from those ‘popular people’ who get them all right. ‘Non-challenging’ is a fib because a quiz question is inherently a challenge, but these questions are carefully compiled to ensure that ‘a crushing collection’ is avoided.

Inevitably, of course, a hard question is one to which we don’t know the answer. On the other hand, an easy question may be felt to be a patronising insult.

The narrow line to be followed in this quiz is to avoid the ends of the spectrum, so that we can all enjoy the fun …even in a masochistic trial.

Additional information can be found in the Northampton u3a Newsletter …out soon.
