The bird watching programme for 2019/2020 consists of monthly meetings locally such as at the excellent Summer Leys nature reserve, Pitsford reservoir, Irthlingborough lakes and meadows and Stanwick lake where we can see the birdlife change with the seasons. We also travel further afield and plan soon to revisit RSPB Frampton near Boston, Lincs, to see the numerous waders and Stockgrove/Rushmere near Leighton Buzzard for woodland birds.
Pictures taken at Pitsford Reservoir, north of the causeway are shown on the right. It was a beautiful November morning so the birds were in sharp focus. We saw all the species we hoped for - a stonechat obligingly visible on top of a reed, a great white egret near a grey heron to compare and contrast, joined briefly by a little egret, and several pintails were preening themselves nearby. And we also saw tree sparrows, long-tailed tits, a green woodpecker and lots more besides.
There is no restriction on numbers for outdoor activities, so if you would like to come along, the group meets on the first Tuesday of every month, typically at 9.30 am but 10.00 if there’s further to travel.
