ALL WALKS ARE NOW CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO COVID-19 ADVICE
To help us keep in touch until we can walk together again we have a newsletter of contributions from our members, you can find the latest newsletter in the links on the right. We also have a weekly map reading quiz, if you would like to participate please contact the group leader via the message link on the right.
We are an active friendly group who enjoy companionship as well as the fresh air and exercise in our lovely countryside.
Walks are led by volunteer leaders and we try to make them as varied as possible. They range from just under 5 miles to just over 10 miles. All members of our U3A are welcome to join us
We meet at the Rugby Ground car park in Wickwar Road Chipping Sodbury in time to arrange car sharing and leave at 9.30 am sharp unless otherwise stated, any different times and start places are marked **
A few points for your safety and enjoyment.
Walking in the countryside has its risks so wear strong supportive footwear and sensible clothing and a waterproof even if it doesn’t look like rain. Please also carry a personal 1st aid kit.
Choose a walk suited to your abilities. Walks are graded Easy, Medium and Hard. Walks 5 miles and under that are graded Easy and taken at a more leisurely pace are marked (S).
Easy walks are on relatively level ground with few if any stiles.
Medium walks are in more hilly areas or have a number of stiles some of which may be difficult to climb.
Some longer walks are marked medium because they have no really steep hills.
Hard walks are for the more able and experienced walkers with more and/or steeper hills.
Check with the walk leader if in doubt.
Take adequate food and water. We usually have a break mid-morning and stop for lunch but this is up to the walk leader.
Due to ever-rising cost of motoring we now consider it fair that passengers offer their driver a contribution towards costs. We recommend £2 for a local journey a guide will be given for longer ones over 20 miles.
