Discovering Villages
What it is: An enjoyable way of getting to know some of the Villages, Market Towns and other places of interest, typically within a 20 mile radius of Chipping Sodbury.
When it is: Monthly on either the 3rd Thursday or 3rd Friday of each month.
Where it is: whichever member volunteers to lead a visit gets to choose which Village, Market Town or other place of interest they want to explore.
We drive to the chosen Village/Town independently arriving at about 10-15am. We meet at a café for a cuppa and a loo-break before setting out to explore the village/town on foot. We cover a distance of no more than a mile or two, at quite a leisurely pace, taking about 60 to 90 minutes and stopping at points of interest for the leaders to address the group. After the tour, we then adjourn for a pub lunch. Most members stay for lunch but this, of course, is optional.
For the Group to continue and flourish, we would like to think that most members will agree to research a Village or Town of their choice about once a year or so and then lead the group on that visit. The leaders will typically either be a couple or, if you are single, you can team with another member.
Research can be carried out using Google and other such tools. In addition to research, the leaders need to visit the village/ town in advance in order to plan the walk route and find a suitable café and lunch venue.
