Art Appreciation - Your Way
The idea behind this Group is for members to interpret paintings from the past in their own way. This will stimulate our imaginations in a way that is enjoyable but also allows us to learn. There are no rights or wrongs just “your way”.
Before each session members will be emailed a copy of a colourful painting. Print it and bring it to the group meeting. We will chat about the form, shape, subject and colour before sketching it into our A4 sketchbooks.
Before the next session we will have the opportunity to learn more about the painting, the artist’s life and times. Do as much or as little “homework” as you like. At our next session we will return to our original sketches and modify them to illustrate our own individual interpretation based on what we have learnt. All is possible: you might want to change the shapes or colours (or both). Use whatever medium you wish. The aim is to have fun whilst learning about the painting and producing your own version. So in two sessions we will have produced our own images of the original. We will then move onto another painting.
We will meet on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 2pm to 4pm in the Tony Burgess Room of the Corn Exchange starting on 12 Sep 2019.
If you would like to try it then please email me, Peter Baker, via the "send a message" link on right of this page.
It’s going to be a great experience and imagine what satisfaction you will have in producing your own version of works by eg Picasso, Van Gogh or Monet to name just a few.
