French Intermediate 2
This recently launched group is aimed primarily at visitors to France and anyone else interested in improving their knowledge of the language. It is suitable for anyone who has studied French for about 4 years - O-level plus some recent exposure to French (e.g. duolingo, holidays in France) is not unusual for current group members. There is just one space remaining.
The group is intended to be relaxed, friendly and fun, and we will find out about different aspects of French life and culture. Activities include listening, reading, translation and grammar, with conversation in twos and threes.
We use a variety of resources including an inexpensive intermediate grammar workbook to consolidate rusty basics and a recently published French course book aimed at adult learners at our level.
To mitigate these book costs during the start-up period, NO group charges will apply for the period until September 2024! After that, there will be a termly charge, mainly to cover materials and then room hire charges that will commence in March 2025.
There will be some preparation to do between sessions. You will need access to a printer to print out materials, or alternatively an electronic device, e.g. iPad, to view them.
Sessions are held on the second and fourth Wednesday afternoons of the month, 1.30 to 3.00 pm. The group currently meets in the Community Room at Morrisons (St Ives). Parking at Morrisons is free and there is no obligation to buy drinks or make purchases in the store. As from March 2025, we will be moving permanently to the Large Meeting Room in St Ives Library.
