Philosophy
Meeting at 10.30am in meeting room 2 of the Methodist Church on The Waits, the third Friday of the month (except in August and December). Cost - £2.50 per session.
The aim of the group, is to go over the most important ideas of the past that have shaped our world. These ideas are often brought out by asking fundamental questions such as, what is the nature of knowledge? am I really free? what is the nature of being?
Doing Philosophy with the u3a should help us think critically about the ideas we come across daily from the TV and newspapers.
Philosophy is thus more useful than people may suppose, helping us to see the sense, from the non-sense.
A rough outline of events is as follows:-
Wednesday 1st May Pike and Eel 1pm Minds as Bundles of Ideas.
Friday 10th May 10.30 The Waits Being in Space and Time 3
Tuesday 2nd July 7.30pm Hamlet at the George Huntingdon
The pub events and other trips out are optional and you may wish attend just the seminars on Fridays.
The format is a seminar for the Friday events, including plenty of time for questions and discussion to take place.
