The ukulele usually has four strings and originated in the 19th century in Hawaii as an adaptation of a Portuguese instrument, which had been introduced by immigrants from Madeira and the Azores. It gained great popularity in the United States during the early 20th century and is now played all over the world - including Barrhead!
John is an experienced ukulele player and still plays at gigs.
So if you are a ukulele player or would like to learn come and join our group. We can provide a ukulele for beginners until they buy an instrument as members are expected to have their own ukulele.
