East Renfrewshire u3a is a charity and was launched in 2008 and now has almost 500 members. Membership is open to people living in East Renfrewshire and the surrounding area, who are either retired or semi-retired and who wish to share in educational, recreational and/or creative activities and companionship.
The u3a was started in 1973 in France by Pierre Vellas and in the UK in 1982. It is an organisation made up of independent local associations run on a voluntary basis by their members. These associations are affiliated to the Third Age Trust and you can access their website by clicking on the u3a logo above.
No qualifications are needed to join and none are awarded. It is all about learning for pleasure and for fun, which is reflected in its motto - 'learn, laugh, live'. Membership of our u3a entitles you to attend any of our monthly meetings, to join as many of our interest groups as you want as well as access to our on-line Newsletter 'Chit-Chat'.
All members and prospective members are welcome to attend the monthly meetings which take place on the third Wednesday of each month at Newton Mearns. Meetings normally take the format of information about upcoming events, followed by a talk from a visiting speaker and concluding with tea/coffee. You would be very welcome to come along and talk to one of our Committee to get a better idea about our u3a and decide if it is for you. More details of these meetings can be found by clicking on Events at the top of the page.
Like all other u3as, we draw upon the enthusiasm, knowledge, experience and skills of our own members to organise and provide a wide range of interest groups and activities. More information about these can be found by clicking o Groups at the top of the page.
This is our online monthly newsletter to which all members may contribute. It gives a round-up of what has been happening over the past month along with points of interest and useful information. Use the links in the right hand column to see a recent one.
If you are interested in joining us please click on 'Members' at the top of the page for more information.
We would welcome your ideas on how you would like East Renfrewshire u3a to develop or if you would like to volunteer in any way. You can send an email to us by clicking on Contacts or speak to us in person at a monthly meeting.
