East Renfrewshire East Renfrewshire Map U3A was launched in 2008 and now has over 550 members. Membership is open to people living in East Renfrewshire and the surrounding area. It is intended for people who are either retired or semi-retired and who wish to share in educational, recreational and/or creative activities and companionship.

New U3A Logo The U3A was started in 1973 in France at the Faculty of Social Sciences, in Toulouse, by Professor Pierre Vellas. In France and continental Europe the branches are mostly associated with a local university. However in the UK this is not the case and here it is an organisation made up of independent local branches run on a voluntary basis by their members.

No qualifications are needed to join and none are awarded. It is all about learning for pleasure and for fun! Membership of our branch entitles you to attend any of our monthly meetings, to join as many of our interest groups as you want as well as access to our on-line Newsletter 'Chit-Chat'.

Monthly meetings
All members and prospective members are welcome to attend the monthly meetings which take place on theMonthly Meetings third Wednesday of each month at Newton Mearns. Meetings normally take the format of information about upcoming events, followed by a talk from a visiting speaker and concluding with tea/coffee. You would be very welcome to come along and talk to one of our Committee to get a better idea about our U3A and decide if it is for you. More details of these meetings can be found by clicking on the EVENTS button at the top of the page.

Interest groups
LogoLike all other U3As, we draw upon the enthusiasm, knowledge, experience and skills of our own members to organise and provide a wide range of interest groups and activities. More information about these can be found by clicking on the GROUPS button at the top of the page.

Chit-Chat
This is our on-line monthly newsletter to which all members may contribute. It gives a round-up of what has been happening over the past month along with points of interest and useful information. Use the links in the right hand column to see a recent one.

If you are interested in joining us please click on the MEMBERSHIP button at the top of the page for more information.
