East Renfrewshire

Fashion Through the Ages

Facilitator Brenda Mason
Meetings 4th Thursday of the month in the Lesser Clarkston Hall, Clarkston Road, Clarkston

Time: 2.00pm

Next meeting: 25th April - Group visit to Paisley Thread Museum

Fashion Logo Have you ever wondered how we have come to wear what we wear today? Fashion has evolved greatly over the years and it’s fascinating to see how what was once the height of fashion can often look totally ridiculous now.

This Group aims to explore all aspects of the history of fashion and how tastes have changed over the years. Each meeting will look at a different aspect of what we wear - it could be about shoes, hats, children’s clothing as well as the more obvious women’s and men’s fashion. If a particular era is of interest, e.g. fashion of the 60’s, Victorian, Regency or Edwardian periods then those could be included as well.

This group is not a “class “ or a “course” about the history of fashion. Rather it’s about a group of people with a shared interest getting together to discover more about the subject. The idea is to learn together and from each other in the true spirit of the u3a.

Members of the group are encouraged to research any aspect of the subject that interests them and to prepare a short presentation to deliver to the rest of the group in whatever form they wish (it could be a PowerPoint presentation or simply a talk with, perhaps, some handouts with pictures etc). Obviously, it’s not compulsory - you won’t be asked to leave the group or anything like that if you’d rather not give a presentation - but it’s likely to be more interesting if it’s not the same person doing the presentation each time.

Visits to fashion museums, exhibitions, displays etc. will also be arranged.

Please make sure that you have carefully considered our Personal Risk Assessment before attending.
