This group was formed to learn the Dutch language and something about its culture. It is a beginners group although we are making good progress.
Some people say that Dutch is difficult to learn but in some ways it is simpler than, for example, French. Pronunciation of 'g' is one of the challenges - the sound is like gargling!
Our sessions involve a range of learning activities such as games, video clips, cartoons and songs (you don't have to sing!) Members contribute their experiences of Dutch visits. We have looked at various aspects of Dutch culture such as windmills, police, cycle paths, Rembrandt and the 1953 floods.
The set book - Dutch for Dummies - costs about £10 and includes a CD.
We meet at the Institute twice a month on a Wednesday. COME AND HAVE A TRIAL SESSION AT ONE OF OUR AUGUST MEETINGS.
The group leader speaks Dutch but is not fully fluent.
Group members are asked to become members of the Sudbury Institute.
This entails a fee of £25.00 a year (if they are not already members) which covers room hire and use of facilities.
