Dear Fellow U3A Members

Update

Firstly, I would like to remind you, if you are not already doing so, that you can keep abreast of National U3A updates, resources and advice via https://www.u3a.org.uk [Link at right]

Also, if you are not currently signed up to the National online newsletter I suggest you could also do this via https://www.u3a.org.uk/newsletter [Link at right]

Back to our Sudbury U3A: Some members have questioned whether they should pay their subscription as we are unable to deliver what they are paying for, so I would like to clarify the position.

Each U3A needs to continue to pay their subscriptions to the Trust when they fall due. The Trust are unable to delay payment as they have to ensure the commitments to all the U3A charities are met. National Office are working from home to ensure they are still providing a full service to all members.

The insurers continue to provide cover for all members liabilities as well as providing cover for all trustees/committee members. It is a condition of the insurance that members annual membership subscriptions are paid.

If you currently subscribe to the Third Age Matters the April issue will be going out soon and that cost has already been incurred by the Trust.

I want to assure you that your committee here in Sudbury are also still working hard to keep our U3A alive throughout these difficult times. When our country and life in general starts to recover we want to be in a position to kick start our wonderful U3A!

Some of the committee are currently working on an online system which we as a committee could use to meet via video link - and in turn, your groups could do this too!

We want to continue with the bi-monthly Su3an - albeit in a different format - and we would like your help with this. We are already hearing great stories of how our groups are organising themselves to keep going, which is wonderful! Share your stories with your fellow members. Have you decided to become a master baker or to pick up those watercolour painting skills again; to finally read that pile of books by the bed (one on my "to do" list) or try a new form of exercise? Perhaps there could be a jokes section, a quiz section? The possibilities are endless.

We do hope the majority of our members will pay their subscriptions (already reduced this year) and indeed many of you already have, thank you. If there are any of you who do wish to opt out then we ask you to please let us know ASAP. Your membership will then be suspended until such times as you wish to rejoin, and we hope very much you will do that.

If you know a member who does not have the internet perhaps you could let them know the content of this message. As always, if you have any queries/concerns please do contact me or any committee member.

Keep safe and well and we hope to see you all soon!

Very best wishes

Anita (Floodgate)
On behalf of the Committee
