Book Binding 1,2,3,4 & 5
Bookbinding techniques have developed steadily over the centuries since the codex largely took over from the scroll. We’ll start you off binding a multi-section blank book which could have many uses. Through this you’ll learn basic techniques and encounter the equipment we use.
Thereafter you can go into restoration and repair, or continue exploring your creativity and the rich diversity of existing bindings.
Binding your own computer printed poetry, family history, or children stories are all possible and rewarding.
So too is using letterpress, lino cuts or other printing techniques to enhance your work, or just painting your images with or without text.
Consider concertina; dos à dos; woven structure; coptic; secret Belgian; pop ups; and many other binding forms.
Embroider or emboss your covers; marble or print your own unique end papers; make your own paper; utilize your own woven or printed fabrics.
The possibilities for you to explore are many, and you'll join a creative group of binders at various stages of their exploration.
We meet weekly in a warm and well equipped workshop. You’ll need tidy and disciplined working practices for success!
