Bird Watching & Nature Studies
"Welcome to Stubbington U3A Bird Watching and Nature Group.
We generally visit the Titchfield Haven Reservation, Hillhead, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.
We meet at midday for lunch , a drink or a picnic before going to the reservation, dependant on the weather.
Some members meet us at the reservation at 1pm.
Individuals tend to choose whether they go East or West in the reservation.
If you are new to bird watching there is always a member of the group that can help you identify the birds seen.
Binoculars are an advantage. The visitor's desk has some for loan.
The charge to enter the reservation is £6.50 (£5.50 if a Senior Citizen).
Annual membership is £60. This can be less if signed in by a member.
We normally spend 2 to 3 hours bird watching but members leave as suits them.
There is usually a coffee/refreshment van on the Meon Shore if you need a break.
The car parking in the area does have a charge but you can park along Hillhead cliffs for free.
We are very privileged to have the Titchfield Reservation and Meon Shore in our area as they are one of the South's most prolific areas for sea birds, waders and wildfowl.
With many rarer bird sightings, for example, the Glossy Ibis spotted last year and recently.
As a group we will be travelling further afield to visit Blashford Lakes, Farlington Marshes, The Wildgrounds and places not yet ventured to.
We will do a Dawn Chorus Walk and a walk to see Nightjars as well as organising talks.
All ideas welcome.
Please come and join us."
