While it is common for people to use the terms 'genealogy' and 'family history' interchangeably, they actually have a subtle but different meaning. Genealogy, the study of ancestry and descent, refers more to the actual search for ancestors, while family history, the narrative of the events in your ancestors' lives, denotes the telling of your family's story. Family history is genealogy come alive.
This group is aimed at people who have started, but not achieved very much, and those who are just beginning this fascinating hobby.
We use a variety of records including births, marriages and deaths, together with census returns and many other sources to discover who our ancestors are and the circumstances of their lives. Also how to access these different records and work through them logically.
At our meetings, members report any progress and we work together as a group to solve mysteries raised by individual research. We aim to make Family history fun!
Most research is done using the internet. All potential group members need to have basic Computer skills in order to take a full part in group sessions and to continue their own family research.
This group meets once a month on the 1st Monday from 1.30 to 3.30pm at the Group Leaders home.
