Criminology Group 1

We meet the 1st Friday of the month, at 2pm in members homes.

It's an extensive subject, ranging from types and causes of crime, Forensics, the whole justice system covering policing, sentencing and types of punishment, both in the UK and worldwide.

We approach it mainly as a discussion group, choosing a subject to research, whether it be of current or historical interest.

It's not as heavy as it sounds, we are a very friendly group who enjoy talking and learning about the various aspects of Criminology

To date we have enjoyed days out visiting the museum at Shepton Mallet prison, and more recently, Portsmouth Crown Court where we met with court officials, including a Presiding Judge, as well as witnessing several ongoing trials.

Our next planned activity is a trip to Hastings True Crime Museum later this year.

We have also been pleased to welcome speakers at two of our monthly meetings. One of whom worked for a few years as a Prison Librarian, giving us a fascinating insight into some aspects of prison life. Our latest speaker was a serving scene of crime officer, giving us a very real insight into the work undertaken by her and her teams.

All of which has given the group plenty of topics for discussion.

As our group is limited by the size of how many our respective houses can hold, we now have a waiting list, so please contact me if you would like your name to be added to it.
