The Bridge Group has currently 38 plus members.
The Group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday afternoons of the month between 1.45 and 4.15 at the Titchfield Community Centre. Players pay table money per session in order to cover the cost of the room hire. Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided on a rota basis by Group members so that we can have a mid session break. All of the necessary equipment (bidding boxes, cards, etc) are provided free.
The emphasis of the Group session is very much a friendly social event.
The sessions have been conducted on the basis of aspects of bidding and the play of the hands, however, after 4 years we now intend to run duplicate sessions similar to those played in other clubs but questions during the sessions can be raised and discussed without being penalised, as would be the case in a duplicate club.
If potential new members wish to join the Group, it would be necessary to know if they have any knowledge of Bridge. However U3A members new to the game are very welcome. For new members with little knowledge of Bridge, introductory sessions would be given before joining the main group.
There are several books available on basic bridge that can be recommended so as to gain initial knowledge of the game.
All members of this group would like to thank Patrick for the dedication that he has given to this group over the last four years and for getting us to this stage and we are very sorry to see him leave but wish him all the best for the future.
