The group meets:- 3rd Wednesday of Month - 10.30-12.30

Useful article in the August 2019 Newsletter -- added below.

Discussion Group 1 is now in its 4th year and we have covered some very interesting topics.

This year our topics have included Brexit!; What are you afraid of and why?; Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder; Should we still have the NHS or should we go private like the USA; Room 101; Do you think you can affect the amount of plastic packaging in our daily lives – should we be worried about it and have you consciously done anything to reduce usage?

This month we had a more light-hearted topic – Would I lie to you - and it was amazing that although after four years together we thought we knew each other well, there were some surprises.

Before we started this month's discussion, each one of us stated what we had done since the previous month to reduce plastic. These are some of the changes we have made:

Using homemade bags made with material purchased from the Rowans Shop and using them to put vegetables in when buying instead of shop bags.
Buying as little as possible – particularly shampoos and cleaning materials.
Stopped using wipes for removing make up and starting to use liquids.
Stopped using wet wipes.
Stopped buying bottles of water; bought reusable bottle instead.
Put vegetables and fruit loose in shopping bag.
Stopped buying plastic bags to put food in freezer, instead use Tupperware type containers, and empty coleslaw and cottage cheese tubs which can be used again and again.
Reduced the amount of vegetables purchased which are wrapped in plastic.
Take small mesh bags shopping which can be used for fruit and veg and also keep the food fresher for longer in the fridge.
