Music Appreciation
Three afternoon groups, each with its regular members, up to 7 with our hostess, meet from 2 pm for a couple of hours on 1st Wed, 4th Tues and 4th Thurs each month, except August and December.
Each gathering has a different theme decided by the leader in a year long programme and members bring appropriate recordings on CD`s, cassettes or even vinyl discs.. Examples of themes are “It`s a Mystery” – “Aspects of Nature” – “Colours and Numbers” and music offered by members can range across the whole genre, classical to light, serious to comedy, western to oriental or whatever. Though by no means mandatory we have learnt to be warmly and intelligently critical of what we hear.
An excellent camaraderie has developed which together with the splendidly wide ranging music of all ages and origins, often brings pleasing surprises or memories from the past to share, not necessarily directly musical, complementing a highly enjoyable afternoon while also introducing us to fresh forms of music. Normally each has two turns, occasionally three. We have learnt to have more ready in case someone unwittingly submits a similar choice before our turn.
Tea/Coffee and biscuits are served.
There are currently no vacancies in any of the groups.
