Art Appreciation (2)
WHEN: The group usually meet on the 4th Thursday each month (and occasionally on the 5th Wednesday in the month).
WHERE: Our meetings or ‘Art Forums’ are held with members of the Art Appreciation Group (1) at the Staines Methodist Church Hall, which is opposite Debenhams. When we visit an exhibition at one of the major art galleries or museums in London, we travel as a group by public transport, usually by train. On occasions we hire a coach to visit places of special interest further afield such as Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford or the Lowry at Salford.
AIMS: To have a better understanding of artists, their work and the history of art.
ACTIVITIES: A varied range of visits to the major art exhibitions in London. Visits to view permanent art collections. Members meetings where we have presentations by members, discuss topics related to art and watch videos on art and artists.
PREREQUISITES:
A general interest in all forms of art including paintings, sculpture and architecture.
WHAT YOU NEED: An open mind.
CHARGES: There is an annual group subscription of £1 to cover our administration costs. We ask for £1 per member when attending our meetings.
EVENTS: Visits to art galleries, museums and places of interest. Meetings or ‘Art Forums’ which enable members to view and discuss specific types of art or works by a particular artist.
Two or three visits to the National Gallery each year for guided tours and talks by NG experts about subjects chosen by our members.
GROUP: We are a new group which started in May 2011
