We used to be called 'The U3A Singing for Pleasure Group', the name being changed to the more unique moniker of 'The Zingari Singers'.
Where previously our meetings were held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at the Methodist Church during Coronavirus Lockdown online sessions have proven so popular that we are now meeting weekly at 11am on Wednesday mornings; there are about 30 members of which 13 regularly attend the online sessions. We had 3 experimental online test sessions to iron out problems, followed by 7 successful serious ones. I say 'serious' but they're really a bundle of fun, we have a great laugh together and it's all very lighthearted.
Here are some of the comments the Zingers have made recently and below that a list of some of the songs we've done.
"I think the sessions are really great. I love finding out the different song choices & hearing the reasons people have chosen them"
"Another successful Zingari singing session thanks - we really enjoyed it"
"I have chosen this song because it brings back happy memories and two folk even danced to it - The Woolpackers - Hillbilly Rock and Roll!"
"Look forward to joining you next Wednesday. One of my favourite songs is 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'"
"I thought it went really well and getting better each time. Love to join you all next Wednesday"
"My choice is a favourite at weddings and parties! I will be dancing round the room"
"I am looking forward to the next session; today's was great. It's so nice to see everyone"
"It's actually quite nice everyone choosing their favourite songs to sing. I especially liked the John Denver song as it reminded me of my younger days. Lovely memories"
"My choice is “Don’t cry for me Argentina”. I do love this one. Looking forward to joining the Zingari Singers session again next week"
The 'Singing for Pleasure' Group used to meet on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 2.00 p.m. finishing with a refreshing cup of tea or coffee with biscuits at around 3.15 p.m.
New members are always welcome to join at any time. There are no auditions, you don't have to be able to read music, you don't even need to be able to sing! We all enjoy singing and have a heap of fun doing it.
Coordinator Pam Ward, telephone 0121 704 3265# There is always someone to welcome newcomers to our group.
