Solihull Widney

Painting

The Solihull Widney U3A Painting Group is made up of a small number of enthusiastic and very supportive members of varying artistic skills and ability. The thing that we all have in common is our pleasure of painting, and irrespective of how good we may be, our group members are all very supportive of each other.

We do not have formal instruction but are very fortunate to have the advice and support of Michael, a very experienced artist. We work on developing our own individual styles and each month we focus on a subject chosen by the group the month before. We then paint it using our preferred medium such as oils, acrylics or water colours. We also practise doing what should be a quick 10 minute sketch at the beginning of each session but most of us still struggle with this concept and usually take a little longer. However, we all agree that the sketching practice has helped us to improve our drawing skills, although not our speed in doing them!
We meet on the first Monday of each month at Solihull Methodist Church from 10 to 12 o’clock and new members are always welcome. If you would like to come along for a taster session, please contact Sue Maher - contact details in Membership Card

We have space at the venue and would welcome new members to the group

New Topic - January and February 2020

We started our 2020 programme by trying something new. Using tissue paper, sketchbook boards and clear glue, we set out to create growing forms. We had fun producing imaginative shapes which will be ready to paint next time. After this first session of the year, we went out for our “Christmas” meal and a very pleasant time was had by all.

In the February meeting we finished the items. The collage shows the development of the work

Outdoor Sketching
.
Once a year the group goes "outside" to paint in the wild. This year the decision was to go out into the sunshine and paint in one of the members' gardens rather than in the Margaret Wareham Room - our usual venue. This became a social event as well as a productive painting/sketching session as the photographs show.

Some recent photos of art work can be seen to the right including some on the theme of 100 Year Anniversary Of World War 1
