Curry Club - for Widney Members
The Curry Club visits local Curry Restaurants on the first Thursday of each month with a 7.30pm start.
The group is co-ordinated by Lyn Catton but different members organise each specific visit.
Curry Evenings have been suspended during Coronavirus Lockdown - Virtual Meetings have been held in April and May and June
Reports on recent Curry Evenings
Curry Club 2nd July - Virtual Meal
This month's session saw 10 members join the Virtual Meal on the day where it was announced that many Curry
Restauarants might not ever re-open after this Coronavirus Lockdown. Not all were eating a curry during the Zoom session. Ian and Diane C were, whilst one couple had earlier had a takeaway from one of our regular restaurants - Darjeeling in Shirley and Mary P was awaiting one fron Indian Dreams on Dovehouse Parade - another of our regular choices of venue pre Lockdown.
In my case it was a sandwich on this occasion.
With changes to Lockdown conditions there is glimmer of hope that curry sessions in an actual restaurant may become possible in a few months. We can but hope.
Curry Club 4th June - Virtual Meal
June's Virtual Meal, was hosted by Lyn C and featured 5 households four of whom were "shielding" or otherwise having difficulties leaving home. Some have had "Curries" delivered to them, others have had relatives bring in the meals whilst others have been able to make them at home.
The general view about the future suggested that it would be a long time before the group would be meeting together in a local Curry Restaurant with the difficulties of "Social Distancing" and the health risks for many of the regulars whe are in high risk Covid-19 categories.
Glasses (and one mug of tea/coffee) were raised as usual and conversation flowed for the full 40 minutes free via Zoom. The conversation needless-to-say centred around our experiences of Lockdown and the attendant health issues.
Lyn expressed the hope that more of our regulars would be able to join us next time via Zoom in July as it is likely to be a very long time before we can again experience the real thing.
Curry Club 7th May - Virtual Meal
Whilst still in lockdown five members of the group linked up via Zoom to converse over a meal at 6.30pm and with aperitifs at the usual curry time of 7.30pm.
When will we be able to meet together again and what will it be like if social distancing is still required when Curry Houses open again other than for take-aways?
Coincidentally one of our popular venues Darjeeling in Shirley in fact opened for the first time this evening for a pre-order and delivery or take-way service.
