Music Appreciation 1

Music Lovers

Music Appreciation (1) normally meets on the morning of the second Friday of every month in the homes of group members.

#During Coronavirus Lockdown the group did not meet in person but successfully switched to a format where musical choices were found on YouTube and links shared with members before the meeting. This gives everyone a chance to listen to the choices in their own time. A Zoom meeting was then arranged to discuss the choices. For 2023 we have gone back to in-person meetings but are still using YouTube as a primary source for our selections and these are viewed prior to the meeting.

The size of the group is limited by how many can fit into someone's lounge and we are close to that now. However if you are interested in joining please contact Ruth.
We have used the alphabet to inspire our monthly musical selections but having successfully reached the letter Z we have decided to try the numbers from 1 to 9 before perhaps starting at A again. By then we will all have forgotten what we chose first time around so everything will be a surprise again!

Each member finds their choice of music on YouTube and forwards the link to co-ordinator Ruth. She then compiles these into a list to send out to the group who listen at their leisure before the next meeting. During the meeting members are expected to introduce and talk about their choice for a few minutes before we have a general chat about the piece and air our thoughts, positive or otherwise! Don't worry that people won't like your choice, it is rare that everyone likes a particular piece and it is good to be challenged from time to time. The whole idea is to be exposed to new music that you might not have come across before and so widen your tastes.

Good morning all,
I hope that you enjoyed your Easter celebrations. Here are lovely choices for our next meeting on 12th and hosted by Mike.

Veronica Joshua Bell playing the first movement of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor with the Academy of St Martins in the Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Mariner in 1988. Bell is now the Musical Director of the orchestra. Lots of Js because the Concerto is dedicated to Josef Joachim (1831-1907) Enjoy.
