This group looks at the work and thoughts of Confucius, the Buddha and Lao Tzu, who continue to exert an an enormous influence today on societies such as China, Japan and Korea. The writings and influence of Indian and other thinkers will also feature and the group may wish to look at the relationship between Socrates and his contemporaries in the East. We will use written material and radio programmes such as 'In Our Time' to help prepare the discussions, each of which will be led by one or more volunteers.
New members are welcome to this group. There is a programme for 2021 including Confucianism in 20th Century China, Daoism, Theravadan Buddhism and Julian Baggini's book on 'How the world thinks'. Additional sessions for new members on the basics of Indian and Chinese thought could be organised. Further information from Alan Huyton.
Note: Meetings are currently held on-line via Zoom.
